Description

“ELISABETA” stands as a testament to the alchemy of art, a double-sided tapestry of texture and color that transcends the ordinary confines of mixed media. Suspended with poise, it invites a dance of light and shadow across its surface, adorned with paper, cartonboard, and a kaleidoscope of spray paint, all ensconced beneath a lustrous veil of resin.

The upper tableau is a cascade of canvas, manipulated with the deftness of a couturier into crests and troughs, evoking the rhythmic serenity of oceanic waves. These fabric extensions drape with an organic grace, as if suspended in the very act of movement, their colors a play of chiaroscuro that mesmerizes and captivates.

This sculptural composition demands a spatial reverence, designed to float four feet from the wall, its double visage offering a dual narrative to those who move around it. It is a piece that occupies the realm of the three-dimensional, transforming its environment into a living gallery where “ELISABETA” exists not merely as an object of observation but as a living entity that converses with its surroundings.

The Oeuvre:

This passage speaks of an artist’s creation that is the counterpart to a spray-painted wall made during Miami Art Week in 2022, with both works united within a single frame. The sculpture is a testament to the artist’s diverse artistic abilities, incorporating painting, molding, and sculpting techniques to create a piece that captures the contrasting energy of Miami Beach’s nightlife and its calming daytime aura. The goddess Elizabeta serves as the embodiment of this dynamic locale, creating an elegant and expertly crafted work of art that employs various techniques to inspire a range of emotions in the viewer. The sculpture is a radiant expression of love, with a painterly palette, nuanced textures, and masterful technique.

Artist Statement:

This collection of sculptural works serves as the exquisite counterpart to a wall I spray painted during the illustrious Miami Art Week of 2022, in a fleeting instant of aesthetic rapture. The wall’s existence was ephemeral, a fleeting creation granted a mere moment of being. In order to immortalize its memory, we imprinted it onto paper and overlaid it with a fresh countenance, with both works enshrined within a singular frame. On intimate examination, one can discern the initial depiction, faintly visible beneath the newly painted stratum, veiled in subtle transparency.

This sculpture is a testament to my multifaceted artistic abilities, as I have deftly painted, molded, and sculpted the canvas into scrunched shapes, emulating the spiraling movements of Miami Beach’s vivacious nightlife on one side and the undulating flow of oceanic life by day on the other. My intention was to create a single piece that encapsulated both atmospheres, contrasting the holistic calm with the explosive energy that defines this dynamic locale. I envisioned Elizabeta, the goddess of both night and day, as the sentinel of this territory, lovingly guarding it for all universal beings.

This magnificent work of art, crafted on a grand scale, exudes elegance, quality, and a depth of research that is palpable in every aspect. I have employed transparency, softness, warmth, awkwardness, and reflection, among other techniques, to evoke a range of emotions in the viewer, excite their senses, and inspire their imagination. This sculpture is a radiant expression of love, expertly crafted with a painterly palette, nuanced textures, and masterful technique.
